Best Day To Start Learning New Things -VASANTHA PANCHAMI

Vasanta Panchami is observed on Magha Shukla Panchami, the fifth day in Magha month. This festival is a jubilant occasion in Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple in Andhra Pradesh.

Vidyarambham or Aksharabhyasam is the main ritual in Saraswati temple on Saraswati Panchami during which children between two and three or five years old are initiated into the world of knowledge (into letters).

Aksharabhyasam means ‘initiation of knowledge gaining. Basara Saraswati temple is one of the important venues where Vidyarambham is performed socially. On Basant Panchami, thousands of people visit the temple and initiate learning to their kids.

‘Sri Ganapathaye Namah is the Aksharabhyasam mantra written on sand or on rice and the child writes the mantra again and again for five times. After that ‘Om Saraswathyei Namah is the mantra which is written on the slate.

Devotees believe that Veda Vyasa Maharshi observed severe penance at Basara along the Godavari river bank and installed the idol of Gnana Saraswati Devi. Children are taught their first words on this day (as an auspicious beginning to learning). Schools, colleges etc., (places of learning) organise special worship of Saraswathi.

With Her grace, the mute, it is believed, have been able to speak and people have been blessed with the ability to write or compose poems. Musicians sing here and many even choose to perform here first. Instrumentalists have puja performed for their instruments here. Apart from art and culture, Goddess Saraswathi also showers Her blessings for the education of children.

Notebooks, pencils and pens are kept at the Devi's feet for blessings and then used by the students. A noticeboard asks the students to write their names, address and the roll number on a piece of paper and put it in the hundi after praying for success! It is believed the Goddess blesses them for good and positive results.

The moolavigraham enchants devotees as she is the embodiment of kindness itself. Her expression is so serene and calm even as She is majestic. She is seated on a white lotus in Padmasana, adorned by a pure white silk sari, has a book in Her lower left hand, Her lower right hand showing the chinmudra, Aksharamala in Her right upper hand, and Amrithakalasam in Her left upper hand. Both eyes are full of compassion.

Vasant Panchami is the festival dedicated to Saraswathi, the goddess of learning

Most Powerful AshtaDasha Shakthi Peetam Temples of Goddess Shakthi

The Puranas and other Hindu scriptures describe that Mother Goddess Shakti was consecrated in Asta Dasha Shakti Peethas (18 prominent temples). The origin or the story of Asta Dasha Shakti Peetha temples goes like this…..
Sri Lanka - Shakthi Temple

Once, King Daksha Prajapathi wanted to perform a Yagna. Except Lord Shiva he invited all the Gods and Sages. Despite her fathers recklessness towards her husband, Goddess Dakshayani went to the Yagna and got insulted. With anger and shame, she jumped into the Yagnagunda (the sacred spot of Yagna) and sacrificed her life.

By knowing this Lord Shiva became very ferocious and carried Dakshayanis dead body on his arms. He performed ‘Ugrathandava or ‘Rudrathandava (a dance form of Lord Shiva when he is angry). Lord Shivas rudrathandava created a bit of deluge in all lokas.

To solve this great problem, Lord Vishnu slashed Goddess Dakshayanis dead body partswqith his Sudrashana Chakra (the sacred discus). And the parts were fallen all over the places. The places where her body pars were fallen are worshipped as Astadasha Shakti Peethas (18 prominent temples of Mother Goddess – Shakti).

According to some Hindu Mythology books, the total number of Shakti Peethams is 108. And some more sacred texts describe that there are 51 prominet Goddess Shakti temples. But most people believe that the 18 Shakti temples are most auspicious Shakti Peethams, which are also referred as Astadasha Shakti Peethas.

The list of 18 important places of Ashtadasa Shakti peethas is collected from a Shloka written by Great Spiritual Guru Adi Shankaracharya shakthi peetams are depicted in this small sloka- learn this and memorize this and visit if your time permits.

Goddess - Sri Saraswathi AshTaKam- Meaning- Video

SARASWATHI ASHTAKAM

( An octet to the goddess of knowledge)

Amba, thwadeya pada pankaja pamsu lesa,

Sambanda banduratharaa rasana thwadheeyam,

Sambhayudhadhipadamapya amruthathi ramyam,

Nimbhayathe kimutha bhouma padani thasya.                                          1

Oh, Mother, for him whose toungue is pretty,

By the contact with the dust of lotus feet of yours,

Even the position of Devendra,

Made pleasant with holy things like nectar,

Tastes bitter and what shall we say,

About any positions in earth?

Matha, sthwadheya karunamrutha poorna drushti,

Pathakwachidwidhi vasan manuje na cheth syath,

Kaa thasya  ghora api dhabhyavaaharanidhra,

Bheethyadhikeshu sama bhavamupeyivalsu.                                                 2

Oh Mother, If your merciful nectar like looks,

Does not fully  fall on a man,

What shall we tell about him,

Who does not see even differences,

In food, sleep and in grades of fear?

Vani rema giri suthethi cha roopa bhedai,

Kshoni jusham vividha mangala maadha dhasi,

Naneeyaseem thava vibhuthimaho vivekthum,

Ksheenibhavathyakruthakopi vacha prapancha                                               3

Mother, the world of words in this earth,

Is just not sufficient to describe Your greatness,

For you grant all that is good for the earth,

In the forms of Sarasvathi, Lakshmi and Parvathi.

Sarvagnatha  giri sutha kamithir vipaksha,

Garvachidhakusalathadivishad guroscha,

Charvaartha sabdha ghatana patutha kaveenaam,

Sarvam thwadheeya  karunaa kanika vivartha.                                                     4

Mother, the all time greatness of Lord Shiva,

The ability to kill the pride in enemies

Of Guru, the teacher of  devas,

And the ability to arrange words of the poets,

Are but different forms of the drops of your mercy.

Mooka kavirjada iha prathi bhavadhagryo,

Bheekunda durbhalamadhir dharani vijhetha,

Nishkinchano nidhipadhir  bhavathi thwadheeya,

Mekam kadakshamavalambhya jagathsavithree.                                              5

Oh Goddess who is mother of all earth,

By one mere merciful look of yours,

A dumb man became a poet,

A fool became the first among the wise,

And a very poor man becomes very rich.

Varnathmike , hima sudhakara sankha kunda,

Varnabhi rama thanu vallari viswa vandhye,

Karnatha deergha karunardhra kadaksha pathai,

Poorna akhilarthamima masu vidathsva devi.                                                    6

Hey Goddess with a colourful soul,

Whose body is as white as the,

Snow, moon, conch and Jasmine,

And who is worshipped by the entire world,

Please rain a merciful look on me,

From your eyes which extend to your ears,

And make me fulfill all my wishes.

Kalam kiyanthamayi they chararavindha,

Malambhya hantha vilapami vilolachetha,

Balam kurushwa krutha kruthyamimam Shubhiaka,

Moolam nidhaya karuardhra mapangamasmin.                                                    7

For how long a time ,am I crying,

Near the lotus like feet of yours,

Oh Goddess ,who is the source of all that is good,

Please be kind enough to shower,

The merciful look of yours,

So that this child will become contented.

Ananda hethu mayi they karunaam vihaya,

Noonam na kinchidakhilesi vilokayami,

Dhoonam dayarhamagathim karunamruthadrai,

Renam shishum shishirayashu kadakshapathai.                                                    8

Hey Goddess who is the cause of my  happiness,

Except for your mercy, I do not see,

Anything in this world to be happy,

And so please make this child drench in cold,

From the rain of mercy from your eyes.

For I am  fit for your mercy,

And does not have any one else.

Imam padedhya prayathasthavodhgha,

Mananya chetha jagatham jananya,

Sa vidhwadharadhitha pada peete,

Labhetha sarvam pursharthasartham.                                                  9

He who reads the prayer,

To the mother of all the world,

Would become fit to be worshipped by the wise,

And would get all that is to be got.
